    Opinions vary on everything and foods and fruits are no exceptions. In fact, even within the food and fruit limitation there can be any number of opinions about how the different methods of growing these edibles can have a net result on them by the time they finally arrive in front of you on a dish.




    The most recent organic food craze has led to plenty of debate among people with one part claiming that there is not much difference between organic and regular food while another group claiming that organic fruits are not only better from a health point of view but they also taste better.

    Organic fruit, like other organic food materials, is grown following the guidelines for organic gardening and farming methods. While every farm has its own individual method of growing organic fruits there is one common factor among all farms and that is the strict avoidance of all sorts of pesticides and chemicals on their crop.

    Everything is grown with the aid of natural factors and elements. Fruit, even if it is grown non-organically, is a good thing for everyone. However, there are some decided advantages to organic fruit. Every plant has a means of natural defense. When plants are grown naturally, they evolve natural pesticides to ward off infections etc.

    These pesticides are basically chemicals that eventually add to the nutritional value of the plant for us. When artificial pesticides are used, the plants do not evolve their natural defenses and the result is a plant with a decreased nutrition value.

    Speaking of chemicals, the ones that are used in synthetic growth aids (like pesticides and fertilizers) are actually harmful to the human body over a long time. The absence of certain chemicals is as beneficial as the presence of others. While it is true that according to some studies the effects of synthetic chemicals are negligible, there have been a few isolated cases of adverse effects. About a decade ago, you would have had considerable problems locating true organic fruit.

    Thankfully, all that has changed now. The markets and co-ops spread across the country now carry products that have the "organic" label on them. Some of the bigger supermarket brands are also beginning to display these products prominently instead of like some oddity to be placed away from the main body.

    Sometimes people are put off by the irregularity in the skin of an organic fruit. There could be splotches or blemishes that make the fruit look old or unhealthy. This is not true because we are used to seeing fruits that have chemical additives in them to avoid such visual problems. A presence of some small splotch or blemish just means that no chemicals were used.

    However, if that is a problem then you can grow your own organic fruit. There are many books and information supplements available to help you go about it in the right way. Organic fruits (and other foods) are a better option for long-term good health.
