Pros & cons of organic foodOrganic food is food that is produced without the use of stimulants or any added substances, which include medicines, chemicals, fertilizers or preservatives. They are made only with the help of Mother Nature and the hard work of the labourers. It is therefore not a surprise that the organic food is healthier for the consumers and better for the environment. People who go for the natural food often do so because they want to go against the modern food businesses and the culture which it has risen alongside. Thus organic food plays a big enough role in creating a feel-good atmosphere, mainly because of the way that it is marketed. It is true that even today the price of the organic food stuff is much more than that of the non-organic food stuff, but then the sales' growth rate of the former is much more than that of the latter. It is because of this that the prices are being decreased. However in-spite-of the high pricing and the natural aspect of the organic foods, there is no difference in the taste. Of course it is healthier but it may not necessarily be more delicious. A big factor may be the time that is required to reach the food to their destinations. Just like organic food for us, humans, there are now organic food for pets that is mainly dogs, cats and birds. Buying pet food from a well known country wide seller means that you are a part of the corporate food chain and involves higher pricings. The food feel also be better and again that feel-good factor comes into play as you feel like you are providing a safe environment for your beloved pets. However the whole matter is still very controversial. What is organic in one state may not be in another. Different states recognize different substances as organic substances. Whether the organic food is really fresh and natural and whether it really is much different from the non-organic food is another discussion. While there are alternatives to organic food like the Authentic Food standard to reduce problems and expenses, one can make alternatives at home by simply cooking rice, eggs, shells et al and mixing it all with nice little vitamins. Thus it is clear that like any other thing in the world, organic food also has its pros and cons, and it is up to us to decide whether we want it or not. For this a thorough study is required as "information is power", and only after we have enough information can we decide which side of the balance weighs more. |
